The Reynaga Lab aims to understand how variation in movement arises in response to changes in the mechanical properties of the physical environment. We accomplish this by investigating how the adaptation of a locomotor specialization (like running, walking, swimming, jumping, etc.) coincides with morphology, motor control, and muscle physiology. Our work contributes to our understanding of functional and mechanical features in specialized locomotor systems. Our experimental approaches include the use of high speed kinematic imaging, dynamic muscle-tendon tests, and utilizing whole muscle-limb imaging to provide insight into novel locomotor systems.
